Chemistry

General Chemistry is full-year laboratory-based course for college preparation that introduces students to chemical concepts and phenomena. Specific topics include: atomic structure, compounds and mixtures, chemical reactions, gases, acids and bases, thermochemistry and reaction mechanisms. Special emphasis is applied to stoichiometric relationships in chemical reactions.
Grading
Grades are determined by scores on labs, tests and quizzes. Because of the ability for calculators to store information, students may never share calculators for tests or quizzes. A copy of the answer book for home-work is available for you to check homework. Homework, while not graded, is a necessary part of Chemistry. Expect to be spending time on homework nearly every night. If something comes up and you could not complete the assignment, be sure to make it up later. Don’t let those assignments pile up on you. Check your grades on the internet with PowerSchool.

Students scoring lower than 75% on a test may, within one week of the original test date, retake the test to raise the score. Students may use their own notes and the textbook when they retake the test. Scores lower than 65% will not be raised without retaking the test. 75% is the highest average possible when the original score is combined with the retake.
Late Work
The deadline for lab credit is the beginning of the class hour one week (7 days) after the lab. If you are absent on the deadline date, the lab must be handed in the day you return to school. You are encouraged to hand it in earlier. You may do any lab over before the one week limit in order to at-tempt to earn a higher score on it. Late labs will not be counted for credit.
If you are absent on a lab day, you must make arrangements for making up the lab the day you return to school. If you fail to make those arrangements on that first day back, your lab deadline will be at the same time as the rest of the class
Cheating
Cheating is dishonest and will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating in any way will re-ceive an F for the marking period.
